My attempt at DIY...

So, the question is "how to do seating cards"? I know that the easy way is to simply have a small card with each person's name and their table name on the card and have them sitting in alphabetical order on a table. However, I saw these really cute pails at Target and had to buy them -- they match my daisy theme and one of my colors! But, what to do with them??? ( I bought 21 of them)

Then, my fmil gave me a chocolate daisy sucker for easter, and an idea came to me! I can make each guest a chocolate candy sucker (I've already found molds on ebay) with a tag hanging off of it with their name and table. But, how to display them??? I could just have the suckers lying on the table, but then I remembered the pails!!! I'm thinking I can use the pails to display 8 or 10 of the suckers fore guests to grab and find their table. So, today I played around with the idea, and the pictures below are the result. Now, I only have one sucker to work with right now, so you'll have to imagine it with more (about 8)... but you get the idea!

Here is how I did it. First I ran some turquoise ribbon through my Zyron sticker maker and used that on the top and bottom of the pail, then I put styrofoam inside the pail with spanish moss on top, and then I stuck the sucker in! Voila! All done in less than 5 minutes.

So, what do you think? Is it too cheesey? What can I do to make it look/work better? I will admit that I had no idea how expensive styrofoam was -- so I may need to find an alternative to that. Any ideas??

I think your seating card idea is very cute. Instead of styrofoam you could try floral foam, but I'm not sure that would be cheaper. You could also get sea glass or glass pebbles in your wedding colors and skip the Spanish moss.

oh, this is cute!

look at you, being all creative and stuff!

would the lollipops still stand up in newspaper? put some really cute moss on top but have the pail filled with easy, cheap, newsprint.

What about plastic bags? you know the ones you get at the grocery store and keep for the tiny wastebaskets (i can't be the only one who does this).

i think once you add the name cards to the lollis, it will complete the look.

suggestions?

hmmm....what about a little index card sized label on the pail that tells people what letters are in the pail or what table they are at?

Like one pail can have "A-D" on it or it could say "Table 9".......

i wish i had a sticker maker....i can see how much easier that would make this whole diy bizness.

Everyone -- thanks so much for the support! I think I've decided on using rice to hold the suckers up. I'm going to have a sucker making party in June -- I'll let everyone know how it turns out!

ladyt -- I have my creative moments, I just don't have the time! If I did my entire wedding would be diy!!! And, yes not only do I save those bags for tiny wastebaskets, but I make lunch for my hubby and for myself everyday and put the lunches in those bags!

ladyt-- I forgot, I love the idea of putting alphabet labels in the pots! I went back to target, and they actually had some made for the pots I bought!!! I'll post pics as soon as I get one made.
